Autumn Foliage Information for Mount Akagi and Ikaho - A Scenic Drive in Gunma

Gunma Prefecture's famous Mount Akagi and hot spring resort Ikaho are famous autumn foliage spots that are visited by many people every year.
Due to the difference in altitude, autumn leaves can be enjoyed over a long period of time, from late September to late November.
Red and golden trees reflected on the lake surface, and the hot spring town enveloped in illuminations.
This is the perfect area for those who want to spend some quiet time enjoying the spectacular scenery that brings the coming of autumn.

Mount Akagi area
 
On Mount Akagi, the leaves change color slowly from the summit to the mountainside, allowing you to enjoy the best viewing period for a long period of time.
The scenery created by the lakes and mountains, including Onuma and Kakumanbuchi, is truly a spectacular view of autumn leaves that represents Gunma.

Around Lake Onuma, Kakumanbuchi and Torii Pass
Azaleas, rowan trees, maples, and other trees are reflected on the surface of the lake and marsh, creating a fantastical autumn foliage scene. Kakumanbuchi in particular is a popular spot for photography enthusiasts, as you can also see the autumn leaves of grasses.
 
Akagi Nature Park
It is a popular spot for nature walks, with around 500 types of plants and over 20 types of maple trees in full color. There are also special opening days only in the fall, making it a great place for families.

Ikaho Hot Springs area
 
Ikaho Onsen, with its picturesque scenery including the stone steps and Kajika Bridge, is also enveloped in autumn leaves.
The contrast between the steam and the autumn leaves is beautiful, and you can enjoy different views both day and night.

A symbolic autumn foliage spot in Ikaho Onsen. The maple trees turn red and are lit up at night.

Hiking trails have been established, allowing you to take a leisurely stroll through the forest, where ancient maple trees are changing color.
 
Ikaho Ropeway
This is a popular experience of walking in the air, where you can enjoy a panoramic view of the autumn leaves and hot spring town below.
